USL or United Spirits is the largest spirits company in the country and a flagship entity of the UB group. The Company manufactures a spectrum of vodka, whiskey, rum, and several other spirits. It is also among the top three spirits companies worldwide and also has a global footprint with exports in more than 37 countries. It also has a sizeable presence in India, along with distilleries and sales offices in India, and a committed team of more than 7500 people dedicated to the accomplishment of the company's mission. The Company also has manufacturing and bottling plants in each state of India. Besides, for delivering its products to customers in the whole country, it established a robust distribution network that covers the entire country.

The Company represents the merged entities of the recent McDowell & Co. Limited, United Spirits Limited, Phipson Distillery Limited, Triumph Distillers and Vintners Private Limited, Herbertsons Limited, Baramati Grape Industries Limited, McDowell International Brands Limited, United Distillers India Limited, Shaw Wallace Distilleries Limited, and Shaw Wallace & Company Limited. Also, the former McDowell & Co. Limited was first being established as a proprietary business in the year 1826.

United Spirits acquired Andhra Pradesh (AP)–based, Tern Distilleries, in 2009, in a bid to augment its primary distillation capacity. It is the company's third manufacturing unit in the region given that one-fifth of USL’s sales volumes comes from AP.

It also acquired Balaji Distilleries Limited in December 2010. It also gave the strategic advantage to the company to consolidate the Group's leadership position in a large, critical, and growing State such as Tamil Nadu. USL's technical center is located in Bangalore, which develops new products, conducts research and development, flavor testing, and quality management. It has 62 manufacturing units.

The company has received recognition for its quality products from independent juries such as International Wine & Spirits Competition (UK), International Spirits Challenge (UK), World Beverage Competition (US), Monde Quality Institute (Belgium) and Mundusvini (Germany).

Its brands include Black Dog Centenary Scotch Whisky, Black Dog 12 YO Deluxe Scotch Whisky, Antiquity Rare Whisky, Antiquity Blue Whisky, Signature Whisky, DSP Black Whisky, Celebration Rum, Single Malt Whisky, McDowell's No.1 Brandy, Premium Romanov, Blue Riband Gin, and White Mischief Vodka.
