Data Methodology

Transparency matters in finance. Here's exactly where our numbers come from, how often they refresh, and where their limits are.

Data sources

  • Quotes & market movers — sourced from NSE live-analysis feeds (gainers, losers, most active, 52-week extremes).
  • Prices & historical charts — Yahoo Finance, used for last-traded price, OHLC history and market cap where exchange feeds are unavailable server-side.
  • Per-stock fundamentals & technicals — niftytrader.in's public data API (P/E, ROE, ROCE, book value, moving averages, performance, annual financials, peers, dividends, bulk/block deals).
  • IPOs — compiled from Chittorgarh and InvestorGain (dates, price band, lot size, GMP trend, subscription).
  • Gold & silver — daily city-wise rates aggregated for 140+ Indian cities.

How often data refreshes

StoxPulse caches data and serves it from the edge for speed, then refreshes it on a schedule (incremental static regeneration). As a guide:

  • Market movers & option chains — every few minutes during market hours.
  • Stock detail pages — quote refreshes through the session; fundamentals and financials refresh roughly twice a day.
  • Gold & silver rates — multiple times per day.
  • IPO, results, dividends, announcements — updated as the underlying sources publish.

Each data page shows a visible “as of” or last-updated indicator where applicable, and our sitemap reports real last-modified dates per page.

How key metrics are calculated

  • Change % — (last price − previous close) ÷ previous close × 100.
  • EPS (TTM) — derived as current price ÷ P/E where a reported figure isn't available.
  • Moving averages — simple moving averages (SMA) over 10/20/50/100/200 trading days.
  • Performance vs Nifty — trailing returns over 10D to 52W, compared against the Nifty 50 over the same window.
  • Market cap — reported in ₹ crore; we display ₹ Cr / ₹L Cr for readability.

Limitations

Market data can be delayed, revised or occasionally incomplete at source. Cached values may lag live prices by the refresh windows above. Some third-party fields (for example peer prices) can be stale at source, so we surface only the values we consider reliable. Always confirm critical numbers against your broker or the exchange before acting.
